Insight into Work

In 2017 we launched our brand new Royal London Insight into Work programme for members and their families

At Royal London we offer members and their direct families the opportunity to do work experience with us through our new Royal London Insight into Work programme. It is open to anyone aged 14 and above, and could help school-age children seeking experience, those who have just left school or university, or anyone aiming to get back into the workplace after a career break.

Opportunities are available in various teams throughout Royal London. Each placement will have a duration and availability date. The two streams available are:

Four-week Work Taster placement

The four-week Work Taster placement is designed to provide you with a detailed insight into a role where you will perform tasks and work as part of a team. Your placement will provide you with the necessary access and support from your team and will be paid at a minimum wage rate. This placement is ideal for anyone who is looking for a more in-depth experience.

Two-week Educational Work Experience placement

The Educational Work Experience placement is designed to provide you with insight into a role through observing the team performing their day-to-day work. Your placement will provide you with support from your team and Line Manager, and you will receive a reimbursement of lunch and local travel costs you have incurred. This placement is ideal for anyone who is attending school, college or university1. For education institutions that only require a one-week placement, we can review these applications on a case-by-case basis.

Consumer

Consumer began in 2013 with the aim to deliver great value products and provide a market leading digital experience to customers. The Legacy Propositions department, which is part of the Consumer Division, was put together in 2014 to oversee Royal London’s closed propositions, including various legacy books acquired over time, such as United Assurance Group, Royal Liver and Cooperative Insurance services. The department now manages over 500 products, made up of approximately 7 million policies.



Sales

The Consumer Sales Team supports both our new and existing customers by delivering a great customer experience, and to help our customers purchase relevant products and services by providing factual information and assistance over the telephone. This will typically be in response to promotional activity dealing with inbound calls, and making outbound calls to follow up enquiries. We support customers to help them make an informed choice, and we work with Proposition, Marketing and GTC to support the ongoing development of these products and processes.

The Financial Operations team is responsible for the production and collation of financial information for statutory reporting for the Royal London Group.

Group Operations looks after the needs of all customers in Customer Services, ranging from setting up pensions for individuals and employers to paying out claims. Our Customer Relations and Quality Assurance areas are responsible for the investigation and resolution of all complaints received by the Group, and checking the quality of the work we do. We also have a team who help us fix historic customer service issues and implement improvements to prevent future problems.



Facilities

The purpose of the Operational Estates Programme is to ensure our buildings are fit for purpose for our current business, and for the build-out of the future requirements of the Royal London Business. Our buildings are looked after by Group Facilities, as well as services used by our people such as catering, and we’re spearheading the move towards a more flexible working approach. The purpose of the project is to provide a new premises for Wilmslow staff. This building will be designed and built out to support a move to flexible working.

These issues could stem from things like incorrect data, regulation changes or procedural failings and can leave a customer in a position where they may experience detriment. Our job is to put these customers back in the correct position.

Working within the Operations area – either in the National Support Unit, which provides a sales support service for Pension products, and/or the Sales department, which sets up and maintains agency accounts, adviser registration for online services, calculation of sales bonuses and development and maintenance of the Sales MI system.

Royal London Platform Services

Ascentric provides an online ‘wrap platform’, offering investment administration and consolidation services to financial advisers, large distributors and product providers. Ascentric is the external brand name for our wrap platform business, and Royal London Platform Services is the internal name. This technology gives customers a clearer picture of how their entire portfolio is performing, putting them in control of their investments through their financial adviser.



Operations

The Customer Service team in RLPS covers a diverse range of activities. We are ultimately responsible for providing an outstanding experience to clients and advisers, and ensuring we take ownership, are proactive and have a high ease of use. We deliver this through what we call Service Excellence, which is a systems thinking approach to constantly improving what we do and how we do it. We support a wide product range, from General Investment Accounts, to ISAs, SIPPs and Retirement Accounts. The team is accountable for the on-boarding of new clients, any requests or queries during the lifetime of the policy from the very straightforward to the complex, through to when clients want to take money off the platform, such as drawdown. We also handle a wide range of asset-related activities from corporate actions and fund maintenance to trade dealing. But it doesn’t end there – we also manage and reconcile money coming onto the platform and have a training team, resource planning and MI functions.
